9. RAID1
9-13
5. Along the progress of the rebuilding process, the OS starts up. Time required for the
rebuilding process depends on what application programs are running during the process.
Accordingly, it is suggested that you do not run any application program until the
rebuilding process is complete.
Note: If you do not want to start up the OS, activate the BIOS setup menu by pressing
the F2 key while the system initialization message (BIOS memory check) is displayed or
when the digital LED for status indication shows “C0”. In the background, the
rebuilding process continues. Let it run to completion for about 70 minutes on a 160GB
HDD.
6. When the rebuilding process is complete, the blinking HDD1 status lamp goes off. Open
the “Hardware status” window from the task tray icon, and ensure that the status of each
HDD in RAID1 configuration is shown “Healthy” in this window.
Note: If you activated BIOS setup menu in step 5, ensure completion of the rebuilding
process with turning off of the HDD1 status lamp. Then, select
Exit
in the BIOS setup
menu, point to
Exit Saving Changes
, and hit the Enter key. Respond to the “Save
configuration changes and exit now?” message dialog by hitting the Enter key to restart
the Equipment.
9.5.3 Performing periodical HDD replacement
NOTICE
Do not replace with an HDD previously used in any RAID level. Otherwise, the
Equipment may not start up or you may lose data stored in the HDD due to
inconsistency of the RAID1 configuration information or similar cause.
Selecting a wrong HDD as the target will erase the data stored in the HDD.
Fully ensure the drive bay number for the target HDD on the Equipment at the
user’s responsibility.
Do not altogether replace the two HDDs in RAID1 configuration.
To prevent damage due to static electricity discharge, wear cotton gloves
when you replace an HDD. Otherwise, the stored data may be destroyed.
When you replace an HDD while the Equipment power is on, first stop the
power supply to the target HDD by placing the HDD into OFFLINE state in the
“Hardware status” window. Never attempt HDD replacement before this
window is ready (e.g., immediately after the OS startup). Otherwise, a
machine failure or HDD failure may result.
The HDD is a consumable part with its life, requiring periodical replacement in about 2-year
intervals (assuming use of 24 hours per day). At each periodical replacement, follow the
steps of Subsection 9.5.3.1 or Subsection 9.5.3.2 as applicable. Because these steps include
RAID1 rebuilding process, you must not altogether replace the two HDDs comprising the
RAID1 system. If you need to replace the two HDDs, repeat the steps of Subsection 9.5.3.1
or Subsection 9.5.3.2, as applicable, for each HDD including the rebuilding process.
