The GDL 90 provides an audio output for aural traffic advisory messages when the display interface is
configured to support Traffic Alerting (Traffic Alert, RS-232, and ARINC 429 interfaces). A discrete
input is also provided to allow these audio messages to be inhibited by higher priority systems.
The audio level is set using the APM “Audio Volume” setting.
The audio level can be tested from the flight deck while the aircraft is On-ground by activating the
IDENT control function. Be sure to enable this option (“Audio Ground Test”) in the APM setup, if
desired.

The Suppression Out is intended to suppress other L-band equipment (such as a transponder) when the
UAT transmits. It provides a high signal (Vin – 1.5V) whenever the UAT is transmitting, and a low
signal otherwise.
If a transponder is installed on the aircraft but the GDL 90 suppression output signal cannot be
connected, perform a test on the transponder after the installation to determine whether the undesired
reply rate exceeds the allowed levels (5 replies per second averaged over a 30 second period for a Mode
A/C transponder, or 1 reply per 10 seconds for a Mode S transponder). See document RTCA/DO-181C
Section 2.2.9 for more information.
NOTE
Certain transponders emit spurious replies in response to some UAT transmissions.
Consequently, it is recommended that the GDL 90 suppression output be connected to
the suppression input on these transponders (if available.)

The GDL 90 provides a 1 pulse-per-second Time Mark Output signal pair using RS-422 signal levels.
When used with an external ARINC 743A position source, the Time Mark signals from the navigation
sensor are connected to the GDL 90’s Time Mark Input pins.
