2.8.6.2 ARINC
429
The GDL 90 provides four ARINC 429 inputs and four ARINC 429 outputs. Each of these may be
configured for low-speed or high-speed operation with odd parity.

ADC/AHRS
An optional ADC or AHRS source can be connected to any of the ARINC 429 inputs. If available, the
GDL 90 will use the ADC/AHRS for radio altitude (label 164), pressure altitude (label 203), altitude rate
(label 212), airspeed (label 210), and heading (True - label 314; Mag - label 320).
NOTE
The two receive-only serial ports (RxD6 and RxD7) are shared with ARINC 429 Input 1.
If RxD6 or RxD7 is used, ARINC 429 Input port 1 is not available.
ARINC 743A Position/Time Input
Any of the ARINC 429 Input ports may be connected to an ARINC 743A navigation sensor, to provide
ADS-B position data to the GDL 90. When installed in this configuration, the GDL 90’s internal WAAS
GPS receiver is not used, and the GPS antenna need not be installed.
The GDL 90 uses the following ARINC 743A labels for the transmitted ownship ADS-B state vector:
076 - GNSS Altitude (MSL)
103 - GNSS Track
110 & 120 - GNSS Latitude (coarse and fine)
111 & 121 - GNSS Longitude (coarse and fine)
112 - GNSS ground speed
140, 141, 150, 260 - UTC time of day
130 - HPL
133 - VPL
136 - VFOM
165 - Vertical GPS velocity
166 & 174 - NS and EW velocity
247 - HFOM
273 - GNSS sensor status
370 - GNSS altitude (HAE)
The ARINC Navigation Block starts with Label 273, and ends with the measurement time labels 150,
140, and 141. See document ARINC 743A-2, Section 4.4.2.3 for more information.
429 Traffic Output
Any of the ARINC 429 Output ports may be configured to provide a 429 Traffic interface, using the
“Garmin w/ TIS” format. This format is compatible with Garmin 400- and 500- series displays and the
GNS 480. See Appendix C for wiring and setup information.
