3 Wiring
This section describes the methods and precautions for wiring the MCT system components. Before beginning
wiring, be sure to read “Safety Precautions” in the beginning of this manual.
3.1 Power Requirements
The MCT control module, user interface and optional monitor card all operate on a nominal 24Vdc supply
voltage with an allowable range of 20.4 to 26.4VDC for the control module and 11-36VDC for the interface. Do
not use the same power supply to power the MCT controller and highly inductive DC loads or input circuitry to
other equipment.
In order to ensure that the MCT properly starts and stops due to power failure, momentary power interruptions
or brown-out conditions, it is recommended that a time delay-on relay be installed in the power supply wiring to
all components of the MCT control system. This will ensure that the system starts and stops correctly. If the
relay is not installed, it may prevent the MCT interface from booting up properly when subjected to momentary
power interruptions less than 500ms.
The individual loop controls are available in both AC and DC models. Depending upon the model ordered, an
AC power source may also be required to supply power to the loop controls.
WARNING:
•
Turn off power to the MCT before starting installation, removal, wiring,
maintenance and inspection of the controller. Failure to turn off power
may cause electric shock, create a fire hazard or cause damage to the
MCT system components.
•
Emergency stop and interlocking circuits
MUST
be configured outside
of the MCT control system. If such circuits are made through the MCT,
failure of the MCT control system may cause uncontrollable operation,
damage to equipment or accidents.
CAUTION:
•
This section presents recommended installation practices and
procedures. Since no two applications are identical, these
recommendations should be considered as guidelines. The system
designer should be aware that devices in control systems could fail and
thereby create an unsafe condition.
•
Electrical interference in an operator interface can lead to equipment
start-up, which could result in property damage and/or physical injury
to the equipment operator.
If the application requires an operator or attendant, you should be
aware that this potential safety hazard exists and take appropriate
precautions. Consult NEMA ICS 3-304 for more information regarding
safety for the installation of solid-state programmable control devices.
