• Locking, Unlocking, and Advancing the Gate Arm ZMA-330, Ver.6
PosiDRIVE Security Gate
When performing maintenance or repairs, using the
Auto-Manual
switch on the
PosiDRIVE controller (Figure 1.6, on page 11) is the easiest way to move the gate arm
into the fully up or fully down position. Since the enclosure door must be open to access
the
Auto-Manual
switch, and the door safety switch disables the drive motor when the
door is open, this method requires bypassing the door safety switch (see “Safety Switch”
on page 12).
Some procedures, such as setting the mainsprings or manually opening the gate during a
power failure, require manually advancing the gate arm. Manually advancing the gate
arm requires bumping the linkage out of the locked position.
To manually advance the gate arm:
1.
Remove the gate enclosure cap. See “Removing the Enclosure Cap” on page 16.
2.
If you are moving the gate arm from the fully up position, have a second technician
secure the gate arm so that it does not descend while your hands are near the drive
mechanism.
To avoid serious injury, always make sure that all technicians are clear
of the drive mechanism and the path of the gate arm before bypassing
the door safety switch. If a person’s hand is inside the gate enclosure
when the drive mechanism actuates, serious injury, including
dismemberment, can occur.
To avoid serious injury, always take the following precautions when
manually advancing the gate arm:
• Terminate all power to the gate; that is, turn off the circuit breaker
and disconnect the battery backup (see “Electrical Components” on
page 10). If the battery backup is not disconnected and the gate is
programmed to automatically raise during a power failure, the drive
mechanism begins raising the gate arm 10 seconds after the circuit
breaker is turned off.
• Have a second technician secure the position of the gate arm. This
is especially important when lowering the gate arm. After bumping
the linkage out of the locked position, the weight of the arm can
cause the gate to descend. If your hand is not clear of the drive
mechanism, serious injury, including dismemberment, can occur.
