1 Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap to your bare wrist. If the metal end is not already connected,
connect it to the ground receptacle at the top left corner of the chassis.
2 Remove the MSM from the BlackDiamond 8800 Series switch as described in
Removing a
BlackDiamond 8000 Series Module
on page 95.
3 At the back of the port option card, loosen the spring-loaded captive retaining screws until they pop
up (
see the following figure
).

4 At the edge of the module, rotate the hot-swap prevention latch up and hold it out of the way (
see
the preceding figure
).
5 Using the handle on the card, pull straight back from the MSM to disconnect the card from the
connectors on the MSM.
6 Slide the card out of the MSM and immediately place it into anti-static packaging.
7 If you are installing a replacement card, install the card as described in
Installing a Port Option Card
in the 8500-MSM24, 8800-MSM48c, 8800-MSM96, or 8900-MSM128
on page 106.
If you are not installing a replacement card, install the option slot cover plate over the port option
card slot.
8 Re-install the MSM, as described in
Installing a BlackDiamond 8000 Series Module
on page 90.
