Table 21: Power Supply Compatibility in BlackDiamond 8800 Series Switches
Switch Model
Compatible Power Supply
Compatibility Notes
BlackDiamond 8806
600/900 W AC power supply
AND/OR 700/1200 W AC
power supply OR 1200 W DC
power supply
The 700/1200 W AC power supply and the 600/900 W
AC power supply can be used together in the same
BlackDiamond 8806 system only.
We do not recommended using the 600/900 W AC
power supply or the 700/1200 W AC power supply in
combination with a 1200 W DC power supply.
BlackDiamond 8810
700/1200 W AC power supply
OR 1200 W DC power supply
We do not recommended using the 700/1200 W AC
power supply in combination with a 1200 W DC power
supply.
Combining Different AC Power Supply Models
When 600/900 W AC power supplies and 700/1200 W AC power supplies are combined in the same
BlackDiamond 8806 chassis and are powered on, all power supplies will be budgeted down to the
lower-powered 600/900 W AC output values to avoid power supply shutdown due to over-current.
ExtremeXOS software optimizes total system power, avoiding the possibility of over-current, by
deciding whether to budget down power supplies with 220 V AC inputs when power supplies with 110 V
AC inputs are present, or to keep 110 V AC power supplies disabled.
Caution
Even though this process avoids the possibility of over-current, an I/O module may be
powered off if a 600/900 W AC power supply is added to a BlackDiamond 8806 switch
running in the configuration described below:
•
The switch is powered by three 700/1200 W AC power supplies at 220 V AC.
•
The switch includes four or more PoE I/O modules with a PoE power requirement that falls
between 2391 W and 2438 W of inline power.
To avoid causing an I/O module to be powered off, do not add a 600/900 W AC power supply to an
existing BlackDiamond 8806 system running in the configuration listed above. Extreme Networks also
recommends that you avoid mixing 220 V AC and 110 V AC inputs when both 600/900 W and
700/1200 W power supplies are present in the same system. When a combination of 220 V AC and 110
V AC inputs is applied, ExtremeXOS software is designed to optimize total chassis power for each
individual power supply type but not for a mixture of power supply types.
Note
We do not recommended using the 1200 W DC power supply in combination with any
Extreme Networks AC power supply in the same BlackDiamond 8800 Series system. We
recommend that DC and AC power supply units not be used together in the same
BlackDiamond switch.
Minimum Software Requirements
