Installing a Port Option Card in the 8500-MSM24, 8800-MSM48c,
8800-MSM96, or 8900-MSM128
The 8500-MSM24, 8800-MSM48c. 8800-MSM96, and 8900-MSM128 modules each have a slot for one
of the following port option cards:
•
S-G8Xc, which adds eight 1-gigabit SFP data ports to the MSM
•
S-10G1Xc, which adds one 10-gigabit XFP data port to the MSM
•
S-10G2Xc, which adds two 10-gigabit SFP+ data ports to the MSM
You need the following tools and equipment to install a port option card:
•
ESD-preventive wrist strap
•
#2 Phillips screwdriver
•
#1 Phillips screwdriver
•
3/8-inch straight-tip screwdriver
Caution
Port option cards for the 8500-MSM24, 8800-MSM48c and 8900-MSM128 are not hot-
pluggable. You must administratively disable the module and remove it from the switch
before you install the port option card
To install a port option card in an MSM:
1 Attach the ESD-preventive wrist strap to your bare wrist and connect the metal end to the ground
receptacle on the top-left corner of the switch chassis.
2 Remove the MSM from the switch as described in
Removing a BlackDiamond 8000 Series Module
on page 95.
3 Loosen the retaining screws on the option slot cover plate (
see the following figure
) and remove the
plate.

4 Align the port option card with the card guides on the module, and carefully slide the card into the
option slot.
