NovaCut User's Guide

I-4  Troubleshooting

Check for ink delivery lines protruding from the tubing/chain assembly.
Check for cross cutter malfunctions.
Check for obstructions in the rotation of the lower roller assembly.
Check that pinch roller pressure is set correctly.

Printing doesn’t start immediately when a file is sent

If you are using the serial port, make sure you’re using the correct

interface cable and that it is securely connected to the proper ports on

both the printer and the computer. (ENCAD serial cable PN 203977)
If you are using a serial interface, make sure that the RS-232/422 settings

match the requirements of your hardware and software. (See Appendix

H.)
If you are using a Windows application, be sure the Print Manager is

OFF. Turn off the Print Manager with the ENCAD Windows driver.
Check the Command setting. When HP-GL/2 (the default) has been

selected, the NovaCut first receives data and then converts it into raster

data for printing. During this process, "CONVERTING" appears on the

display panel.
Check that the application software's device setting and interface condi-

tions supports the commands selected by the NovaCut's Command

setting. (See Appendix H.)

Beeper sounds and the Prompt light blinks

The NovaCut is overloaded and the motor current has been raised above

the rated level.
The cutting conditions may not suit the loaded media. Reduce the Speed

and/or force settings.
Be sure the pen and cartridge carriages are not obstructed. Clear any

obstructions, then turn power off and back on.
The internal speed control may have malfunctioned. Turn power off and

back on again. If this occurs frequently, contact ENCAD technical

support.
