2. If you are removing the card permanently, install a metal filler bracket over the empty expansion slot opening and push the expansion
card latch.
NOTE:
You must install a filler bracket over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust out of the system and aid in proper
cooling and airflow inside the system.
Installing expansion card into the expansion card riser
Prerequisites
1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in
2. Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
3. Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
4. Ensure that all internal cables are routed correctly and connected, and no tools or extra parts are left inside the system.

Remove the expansion card riser from the system

11. When removing a card from low profile, full height X1, or butterfly riser, ensure that the PCIe card holder latch is closed.
12. When installing a card into low profile, full height X1, or butterfly riser, open the PCIe card holder latch.
13. If installing a new expansion card, unpack it and prepare the card for installation.
