ACCESS FROM LEVEL:
setting pre-set digits for PLU code
This function is used for setting the required length of PLU coding that operators have to select,
that is the trailing digits of a PLU code, and the fixed leading digits.
For shop requirements, PLU codes assigned to a specific department may be programmed to start
all by a certain sequence of leading digits. To avoid the need for the operators to type in this
sequence of digits each time, the scale can be programmed to automatically add it, so the operators
will only type in the trailing digits. Enter the function and then press
<ENTER>
to access
programming, as follows:
2 3 P L U D I G I T S
Then press
<ENTER>
again:
2 3 P L U D I G I T S
< 2 ÷ 7
>
D I G I T S
d
where:
d
= number of trailing digits of PLU code (i.e. the length of the variable part of PLU code)
Use the key
<SEL>
for selecting the required value, and then
<ENTER>
to confirm it. If the code
length is 7 digits return at the function initial display, if it is shorter than 7, then the leading fixed
part of PLU code will automatically be displayed, as follows:
2 3 F I X E D P A R T
O F
P L U C O D E
f f f f f
where:
fffff
= fixed leading digits of PLU code
Now enter the fixed leading digits of PLU; of course, the no. of digits available can vary on the
length pre-set for the training digits, considering that a PLU code (fixed l variable trailing
digits) can be formed by 7 digits max. Confirm by
<ENTER>
to return to the initial function
display. Using a composite PLU code (fixed + variable part) can be interesting when different
scales are located in areas of the shop selling different items (e.g. an area with vegetables, another
with bakery, etc.). A fixed leading part of PLU code can then be used to identify a specific shop
area. For instance items in the vegetable area can be identified by PLU starting with 15, whilst
bakery can be identified by PLUs starting with 12.
This arrangement can be convenient when the items sold in each shop area served by a scale is so
high that the number of “hot-shot” keys available in the scale is not sufficient. So for a number of
item the PLU code must be entered digit by digit. By setting a leading fixed part, the operator can
then enter the variable part only, thus saving time and effort.
To sum up, in this hypotheses to PLU is composed by:
A. a fixed part, common to all PLUs in a shop area
B. a variable part, uniquely identifying the PLU in that given area
