Viewing the Histogram
To view a histogram of network utilization, click
Histogram
to display the
Network
Monitor Histogram
. You can hide or show
Utilization
,
Errors
, and
Broadcasts
, as
desired.
1. Select
Health
from the
Tools
menu and click the
Network Stats
tab. The
Network Stats
tab screen displays.
2. Click
Start
. Run the test long enough to collect a significant amount of data based
on the
Monitor Report Rate
you established under
Options
.
3. Click
Stop
.
4. To see your results, click the
Histogram
button. The
Network Monitor Histogram
screen appears.

5. Click any one or all of the three options:
Utilization
,
Errors
or
Broadcast
to make
the results appear in the Histogram.
Utilization
will appear in blue,
Errors
in yellow
and
Broadcast
in green.
If only one stat type is checked, you will see alarm and caution bars that coincide
with the alarm settings for the other stat types.
6. You can use the scroll bar at the bottom of the Histogram to help you locate the
source of a problem. By looking at the peaks and activity levels, you can locate a
time period when you are getting high network usage, a large count of errors or
devices that are broadcasting at too frequently.
7. When you have located a problem area, move the slide located at the top of the
histogram so that the vertical line goes through the area in question.
Note that as you move the gauge through the histogram, the recorded time changes
at the bottom of the histogram under
Line At
. To the right of this time, the actual
date and time of the data capture is displayed.
8. Click
Details
to go to the
Top Talkers/Cumulative Conversations
screen to view
which workstations may be causing the problem. You will see the same time under
Received Time
that you noted on the
Network Monitor Histogram
screen under
Line At
. Use the
Previous
and
Next
buttons to move through this report.
