2 System Overview BT1 Security Appliance
2.13 System Environmentals
This section describes the system environmental temperature, airflow, and power considerations.
2.13.1 Space and Airflow Requirements
To allow for servicing and airflow, ensure space for internal and external clearances are within
specifications for the rack enclosure.
The BT1 Security Appliance draws in cool air through the front and expels warm air through the rear.
The front and rear rack doors must be adequately ventilated to allow ambient room air to enter the
cabinet, and the rear door must be adequately ventilated to allow the warm air to escape.
Note:
During normal operation, the system will cycle the cooling fans'
RPMs creating a variable high-pitched whine.

To prevent improper cooling and damage to the equipment, do not block the ventilation
openings.

To maintain proper airflow through the rack enclosure, cover all gaps with blanking panels to prevent
changes in airflow through the rack and across the appliances.
2.13.1.1 Adequate Airflow Example
The front and rear doors of a rack enclosure should include ventilation holes/mesh. For a 42RU
enclosure, 5,350 sq cm (830 sq in) of holes should be evenly distributed from top to bottom to permit
adequate airflow. The clearance between the installed BT1 Security Appliances and the side panels
of the rack must be a minimum of 7 cm (2.75 in).
