3.5 Powering Up an Appliance
Each appliance may be powered on and off independently from the rest of the appliances installed in
the same rack.
Use ESD best practices to avoid electrostatic discharge on or within the appliance.

Power Up Best Practice
1.
Ensure everything is turned off (unless otherwise instructed).
2.
Attach the power cable to the appliance.
3.
Attach all signal cables to the appliance.
4.
Attach the power cord to the AC outlet.
5.
Turn on the appliance.
LED
Color
Description
Power button indicator Green steady
The appliance is powered on and operational.
Blue steady
AC power is connected and available to the system, but
the system is not powered on.
Yellow Steady
Indicates the system is requesting a graceful shutdown.
Pressing the power button while in this state will force
the system to turn off.
Red Steady
The system is indicating that an error has occurred.
Not illuminated
The appliance is not connected or AC power is not avail-
able.

An appliance may be powered up in two ways:

Pressing the power button on the appliance.

Using the IPMITool to issue the
ipmitool chassis power on
command from a
