Baking tips
If something goes wrong when baking, you can find
some tips here.
Issue
Tip
Sparks are generated
between the tin and the
wire rack.
¡
Check that the tin is
clean on the outside.
¡
Change the position of
the tin in the cooking
compartment.
¡
Continue baking wi-
thout the microwave
and increase the ba-
king time.
You want to find out
whether the baked item is
completely cooked in the
middle.
¡
Push a cocktail stick
into the highest part of
the baked item.
If the cocktail stick
comes out clean with
no dough residue, the
baked item is ready.
Your baked item col-
lapses.
¡
Note the ingredients
and preparation in-
structions that are gi-
ven in the recipe.
¡
Use less liquid.
Or:
¡
Reduce the baking
temperature by 10 °C
and increase the ba-
king time.
Your baked item has
risen in the middle but is
lower around the edges.
¡
Only grease the base
of the springform cake
tin.
¡
After baking, loosen
the baked item careful-
ly with a knife.
Small baked items stick
to one another when they
are baked.
¡
Leave a gap of around
2 cm between each
baked item.
This allows enough
space for the baked
items to expand well
and brown on all
sides.
Issue
Tip
Your baked item is too
light in colour overall.
¡
Check the shelf positi-
on and accessory.
¡
Increase the baking
temperature.
Or:
¡
Increase the baking ti-
me.
Your item baked in a tin
or loaf tin is too dark.
¡
Position the baking tin
in the centre.
Your baked item is too
dark.
¡
Reduce the baking
temperature and incre-
ase the baking time.
Your baked item is un-
evenly browned.
¡
Reduce the baking
temperature.
¡
Cut the greaseproof
paper to a suitable si-
ze.
¡
Position the baking tin
in the centre.
¡
Shape small baked
goods to be the same
size and thickness.
Your baked item is not yet
cooked properly in the
middle.
¡
Reduce the baking
temperature and incre-
ase the baking time.
¡
Add less liquid.
For cakes with a moist
topping:
¡
Pre-bake the base.
¡
Sprinkle the baked ba-
se with almonds or
breadcrumbs.
¡
Place the topping on
the base.
Your baked item will not
come out of the tin when
turned upside down.
¡
Allow the cake to cool
for 5 - 10 minutes after
baking.
¡
Use a knife to carefully
loosen the edge of the
cake.
¡
Turn the cake tin upsi-
de down again and co-
ver it several times
with a cold, wet cloth.
¡
Next time you bake,
grease the baking tin
and sprinkle it with
breadcrumbs.
