LIST OF WORDS AND PHRASES
Before you begin to assemble your shelter, it is
important to become familiar with the words and phrases
used in this instruction manual.
The words and phrases that follow are common to many
ClearSpan™ shelters and identify the different parts of a
shelter. (Some are used in this document. Others may
not apply to this particular shelter.) These terms are
used to describe the shipped parts and can also be
found on the materials list/spec sheets included with the
shipment. To aid in the assembly, consult the following
definitions
before
you assemble your shelter.
•
Conduit
: A pipe or pipe assembly used as part of
the frame (e.g., a purlin), or in the sleeve of a cover
(e.g., cover conduit) for a particular shelter.
•
End (or Side) Panel:
Fabric or material used to
cover the end wall assemblies (or the side for an
arena). End wall assemblies are optional for many
shelters.
•
Ground Post:
Metal tube or pipe driven or set into
the ground. Typically, rafters are attached to the
ground posts after the posts are properly anchored
in the ground.
ATTENTION: For the HIGH CROWN ARENA, each
ground post is set in a 24" hole dug 4' below grade.
The hole is then filled with concrete.
•
Main Cover:
Fabric or material used to cover the
roof and, in some instances, the sides of the shelter.
•
Must Read Document:
This document includes
building and shelter anchoring instructions, steps for
end wall reinforcement, safety precautions, and
notices and warnings. The Must Read document is
sent with all shelters and buildings. If you did not
receive a Must Read document, contact Customer
Service at 1-800-245-9881 to request one.
•
Plain or Straight Pipe:
A term used to describe a
pipe that has the same diameter throughout its
entire length.
•
Ratchet:
Mechanism attached to the frame of a
shelter and used to tighten the straps that stretch
and hold the cover on the shelter.
•
Purlin:
A purlin is typically a length of pipe used for
the bracing of the shelter frame. It is secured to the
framework by brackets and bolts. Purlins are found
on many ClearSpan™ shelters.
•
Swaged End or Swaged Pipe:
The term "swaged"
refers to the tapered end of the pipe. Swaged ends
of a pipe can be inserted into couplers and the
straight ends of other pipes.
•
Tek Screw:
A self-tapping fastener used to secure
pipe joints and to fasten brackets to rafters. Tek
screws are used for a variety of fastening purposes.
