Appendix B: Troubleshooting Motion and Encoder Issues
Symptom or Error
Motor doesn't move
5. Are the servo amplifiers mapped correctly?
when commanded
GPIO4D systems running in velocity mode that do not utilize the
OpticDirect interface boards should have the drives mapped in the
parameters section as: 300 = 9, 301 = 10, 302 = 11 and 304 = 12.
To enter the parameter screen from the main screen press:
F1-Setup
→
F3-Config, pw = 137, press enter
→
F3 Parms
NOTE: Although your mapping may differ, for troubleshooting
purposes, the default GPIO4D drive mapping is described.
6. Is parameter 256 set to 1?
For GPIO4D systems running in velocity mode that do not utilize the
OpticDirect interface boards, parameter 256 must be set to 1.
7. Are the PID values, acceleration rates and maximum speed set?
If a 0 value is present in acceleration rate, max rate, Kp or Kv1, the
motor won't move. If a 0 value is entered for any of the above fields,
enter the values as displayed below.
NOTE: While additional tuning will almost certainly be required, the
values below should at least get the motor to move. For further
information, please see the section on troubleshooting “Motion is not
smooth” later in this Appendix. To enter the PID screen, from the main
screen press:
F1-Setup
→
F3-Config, pw = 137, press enter
→
F4 PID->F1-PID Config
Symptom or Error
Motor doesn't move
8. Is the -10VDC to +10VDC analog output(s) on the GPIO4D
when commanded
present on the servo amplifier?
Measure the analog input signal on the servo amplifier to confirm that
the -10VDC to +10VDC signal voltage is present. Use MDI to perform
the following command(press cycle start after command is entered):
G193 x1 p.1 l1
This command tells the control to put out +1VDC (p.1) for 1 second on
the X axis (x1). To change the axis being commanded, change the x to
y or z etc.. To increase the length of time to 3 seconds, change x1 to x3.
To increase the voltage to +5VDC, change p.1 to p.5. To output -5VDC,
negate the p value to -.5 and so on.
If the -10VDC to +10VDC signal is present at the amplifier but the is not
responding, there is a problem with the servo amplifier, it's parameters
or the signal is wired into the wrong terminals. If the -10VDC to
+10VDC signal is not present, check the wiring between the GPIO4D
and the servo amplifier...continued on next page
