Microsoft and IBM Network Operating Systems (SMB)
You access the AXIS StorPoint HD just like any other workstation or
file server. Below you will find examples on how to access the
StorPoint HD using clients for Windows 95, Windows for
Workgroups, Windows NT, OS/2 and DOS.
SMB is a protocol that make use of NetBIOS. NetBIOS can be
transported over several different network protocols. The
StorPoint HD includes support for the following two ways:
• SMB over NetBIOS/NetBEUI.
• SMB over NetBIOS/TCP/IP (also designated NBT).
The StorPoint HD will automatically handle both protocols.

The examples below assume that you have not changed the SMB
server name on the StorPoint HD. The default server name in the
SMB environment is
AXIS<nnnnnn>
, where
<nnnnnn>
are the six
last digits of the StorPoint HD serial number. If you have
changed the server name, please use the new name where the
examples refer to the default name.

The Network Administrator can set the configuration parameter
ShowPseudoShares
so that the only files seen are the Jaz disk’s. If
this is the case the
config
,
root
, etc. folders will not be seen
when accessing the StorPoint HD. However they can still be
accessed by manually inserting the path to, e.g. the
root
folder,
when mapping the drive.
