Send the Internet
Address to the
AXIS StorPoint HD
You can send the Internet address to the StorPoint HD in four ways,
the
rarp , the bootp, the arp (available in Windows 95 and Windows
NT ) and dhcp method. The main characteristics for each method are:
• rarp – downloads the Internet address to each device
automatically. Requires a rarp daemon on your system and
operates within a single network segment only.
• bootp – similar to rarp, but operates on the entire network.
Requires a bootp daemon on your system.
• arp – the easiest method. Requires that the Internet address is
downloaded to each new device individually. The protocol is not
routable, i.e. the workstation from which configuration is made
has to be located on the same network segment as the
StorPoint HD.
• dhcp - allows for the automatic but temporary assignment of
Internet addresses from a central pool. In the absence of either an
active RARP or BOOTP daemon running on the host, DHCP
will, when enabled, cause the selected host to automatically
allocate and down load a free Internet address, Default Router
address and Net Mask to the requesting StorPoint HD. It also
provides validation data that defines how long the Internet
addresses will remain valid.
Choose the method best suited to your needs. If necessary, the rarp ,
bootp and dhcp methods can be enabled or disabled by editing the
RARPEnable
,
BOOTPEnable
and
DHCPEnable
parameters as described
in “Section 5 - StorPoint HD Configuration ”.

Only one of the RARP, BOOTP, DHCP methods for setting the
Internet address should be enabled at the same time. If both a
BOOTP and a DHCP server on the network provides an Internet
address then the BOOTP address is used. If both RARP and a
BOOTP or DHCP server provides an Internet address at the
same time the results are undefined.
