System Alerts

MISCOMPARES

The IFDs share and compare much of their data for fault
detection purposes. If a miscompare occurs, both IFDs will
display the appropriate warning message adjacent to the affected
instrument. The following parameters are constantly being
compared:

•

Pitch (Dual ADAHRS systems only)

•

Roll (Dual ADAHRS systems only)

•

Airspeed (Dual ADAHRS systems only)

•

Altitude (Dual ADAHRS systems only)

•

Heading (Dual ADAHRS systems only)

•

Glideslope

•

Localizer

•

VOR deviation

•

GPS position

REAL TIME CLOCK DRIFT

The IFD maintains an accurate time and date even when the
system is powered off for long periods of time. Having accurate
knowledge of the time and date are essential for correct display of
certain types in inputs e.g. traffic and weather data. It is not
uncommon for the IFD’s clock to drift slightly over time, especially
when the system has been powered down for an extended
period. In order to compensate for this, the IFD uses the GPS
data in order to adjust the system clock each time the IFD is
powered on. If, the IFD’s clock is found to have drifted
significantly, it may be necessary to repower the IFDs in order to
make the proper clock adjustments. In these cases, the system
will post an advisory instructing the pilot to cycle power to the
IFDs when convenient.
