Exercise C: Crump Weir

Objective

To determine the relationship between upstream head and flowrate for water flowing over
a Crump weir.

To determine the modular limit and to observe the flow patterns obtained.

Method

By using the Crump weir installed in the C4-MkII flume and operating the flume under a
range of flow conditions.

Equipment Required

Armfield C4-MkII Flume

Broad Crested Weir model

Two Hook and Point Gauges, 300mm scale

Armfield F1-10 Hydraulics Bench

Stopwatch (for flow measurement using F1-10 volumetric tank)

Optional Equipment

Direct reading flowmeter

C4-61 Pitot tube and manometer (for velocity measurement)
