7.5 Cleaning the spray chamber (standard Scott Chamber)
Warning! Hot surface!
The plasma torch, the plasma interface, and the induction coil can become
extremely hot.

Let the components cool for 10 to 15 minutes before commencing work on
them.

When working on the plasma torch, plasma interface, and induction coil,
wearing protective gloves and safety goggles is mandatory.
Warning! Risk of injury!
Glass parts may break when handled incorrectly and cause cutting injuries.

When working on the sample introduction system, wearing protective gloves
and safety goggles is mandatory.

If glass is broken, a suitable container (bucket) must be used to collect the
larger pieces first. In order to remove small parts and glass fragments, a
suitable vacuum must be used.
Warning! Toxic and corrosive substances!

The sample introduction system may contain hazardous sample residues.

When working on the sample introduction system, wearing protective
gloves and safety goggles is mandatory.

Compliance with the safety data sheets as well as the H and P phrases
that apply to the sample material and/or the solvent used is mandatory.
Removing the sample hose
In order to prevent any residual liquid remaining in the tubes from jetting towards
the machine operator during disassembly, the sample tube must be pulled away
from the machine operator.
To clean the spray chamber, proceed as follows:
1. Flush the sample introduction system for approx. 10 minutes with a suitable
blank solution, e.g., distilled water for aqueous applications.
2. Switch off the plasma.
3. Loosen the Ar connection of the nebulizer.
4. Loosen the clamp between the plasma torch and the spray chamber.
5. Carefully pull off the spray chamber and remove the spherical joint seal.
6. Remove the spray chamber.
7. Separate the nebulizer from the spray chamber by slightly twisting it.
8. Disconnect the waste water connection from the drainage of the spray
chamber and remove the cap from the spray chamber by slightly turning it.
