Introduction to Programming
Position Indicator Verification
Many Agilent switches contain position indicator options that allow for
electronic verification of the switch position. The 34945EXT module contains
circuitry to detect these signals and the Y1156A verification board can be used
to test the functioning of this circuitry.

Turn off the channel drive (module configuration window) or turn off the
34980A.

Install the verification board in bank 1 (or the desired bank) of the
34945EXT. Securely fasten the verification board within the bank using the
terminal screws.

Turn on the 34980A (if turned off) and open the web interface. Select the
‘Browser Web Control’ page and select ‘Allow Full Control’.

In the ‘Browser Web Control’ window, locate the bank and Y1156A
programming diagram. An example of the diagram is shown in Figure 4-9.
For this example, the 34945A is installed in 34980A slot 1.

From the bank configuration window, select ‘
Preset Bank
’ (the channel drive
(module configuration window) must be off before ‘
Preset Bank
’ is active).

Open the ‘SCPI Command Interface’ window (Figure 4-9) and from the
window, send the commands:
ROUT:CHAN:VER:ENAB ON,(@1101:1118)
!enable verification
ROUT:CHAN:VER:POL INV,(@1101:1118)
!invert the polarity
ROUT:CHAN:DRIV:PULS:MODE OFF,(@1101:1118) !continuous drive

Create a verification sequence (see “Sequence Programming”) that closes
and opens the desired channel(s). Enable the channel drive and execute the
sequence. With the polarity inverted (Step 6), closing the channel tests the
34945EXT circuitry receiving the position indication signal. An error
message will occur if the position sensed does not correspond to the
programmed state.

To verify other channels, modify the channel address in the sequence as
required and execute the sequence again. To test another bank, set the
Channel Drive
source to “Off”. Move the Y1156A to the bank and click the
“Update View” button to refresh the Web page. Repeat steps 5-6 (with the
new bank address) and change the channel addresses in the sequence.
When finished, turn off the continuous current mode to prevent an
overcurrent condition on the power supply driving the 34945EXT.
