Normally, lime removal will be F ompleted within one hour

Keep the area around the burner F lear and free of F ombustible
materials, gasoline or other À ammable liquids or vapors
Do not obstru F t burner air openings or ventilation grilles for
F ombustion air

The main burner À ames (Figure 27) should be visually F he F ked
on F e a year for proper operation This F an be observed through
the observation port on the burner housing Burner À ame should
be blue DO NOT use the observation port on the side of the tank
to inspe F t the burner À ame
1 Add a few drops of no 20 non-detergent oil (BTP-139/A thru -
370/A) into the oil tubes on F e every three months
2 At least annually, F onta F t a quali ¿ ed servi F e te F hni F ian for
a burner readjustment, F leaning and other than routine
maintenan F e Should the main burner or burner air openings
require F leaning, remove the burner and F lean with a soft
brush Clean main burner ori ¿F e with a suitable soft material
While the water is being run through the tank, insert a
stiff wire,
F opper tube À attened at one end or an opened
wire F oat hanger through the F leanout opening and
s F rape out any loose deposits of s F ale or sediment This
is an e F onomi F al way to avoid unne F essary usage of the
deliming solution
Repeat the opening and F losing of the F old water inlet valve
as ne F essary but be sure the heater is F ompletely drained
when ready to introdu F e the UN ‡ LIME
Upon F ompletion, reinstall the F leanout F over and use a new
F leanout F over gasket (part number 9004099215)
Remove the drain valve
9 Install the long plasti F male adapter insert ¿ tting into the drain
valve opening of heater after applying Te À on tape or paste to
threads Tighten ¿ rmly by hand and use wren F h or adjustable
pliers to F he F k for se F ure F onne F tion Do not over tighten to
avoid damage to threads and ¿ ttings
Prepare the Up-N-Down Transfer Kit
The next step is the preparation on the Up-N-Down Transfer Kit,
if you have not already done so
1 With the 5 gallon Up-N-Down F ontainer in the verti F al
position, uns F rew the plasti F vent F ap in the handle and
pier F e the plasti F membrane over the vent boss under the
F ap to allow the F ontainer to vent
Note: If your F ontainer does not have the vent F ap and vent
boss, drill a 3/16 ´ hole in the handle When you have ¿ nished
deliming you will be able to plug this drilled vent with the
stainless steel s
F rew that is supplied with the kit
2 Remove the F ontainer ¶ s F ap and F ut the plasti F membrane
lo F ated in the 3/4 ´ IPT opening in the F ap Take F are to not
damage the threads
3 Find the 3/4 ´ male adapter, apply te À on tape to the threaded
end and s F rew it into the 3/4 ´ IPT opening in the F ap
4 Put F ap with male adapter ba F k on the F ontainer and slide
3/4 ´ hose over end of male adapter and fasten in pla F e using
hose F lamp provided
Delime using Flo-Jug Method
5 Slide the hose F lamp over end of hose and slide hose over
the male adapter in the water heater drain opening and
se
F ure in pla F e using hose F lamp
6 Lift F ontainer to the ³ Pour ´ Position, see Figure 26, being
F areful to keep the vent in the handle above the liquid level
and pour the UN ‡ LIME into the heater
7 Lower F ontainer, you may have to pla F e the F ontainer on its
empty F arton to prevent the UN ‡ LIME from À owing ba F k into
the F ontainer
8 Let UN ‡ LIME remain in the heater for 5 minutes and then
lower the F ontainer to the ³ Drain ´ Position, see Figure 26
9 Deliming a F tivity is indi F ated by foaming on the surfa F e of the
UN ‡ LIME If there is deliming a F tivity, repeat steps 6 thru 8
