The heater must not be lo F ated in an area where it will be

drain pan should be installed under heater Su F h pans

CLEARANCES
These heaters are approved for installation on non- F ombustible
flooring in an al F ove when the minimum F learan F e from
F ombustion or non- F ombustible F onstru F tion are followed as
indi F ated in Figure 7 and Table 5
Units whi F h are to be installed on F ombustible À ooring must
be supported by a full layer of hollow F on F rete blo F ks, from
8" to 12"
thi F k and extending 12" (minimum) beyond the heater in all
dire F tions The F on F rete blo F ks must provide an unbroken
F on F rete surfa F e under the heater with the hollows running
F ontinuously and horizontally A 3/16 in F h steel plate must
F over the F on F rete blo F ks See Figure 5

In all installations the minimum F ombustible F learan F es from
barometri F draft F ontrol surfa F e or vent piping shall be 6 ´
(152mm) Vent piping passing through a F ombustible wall or
F eiling must be a F ontinuous run (no joints) and retain 6 ´
(152mm) F learan F e unless an approved redu F ing thimble is used
A servi F e F learan F e of 24 ´ (610mm) should be maintained from
servi F eable parts, su F h as relief valves, baf À es, thermostats,
F leanout openings or drain valves

LOCATING THE WATER HEATER
Property Damage Hazard
All water heaters eventually leak.
Do not install without adequate drainage.
CAUTION
When installing the heater, F onsideration must be given to
proper lo F ation Lo F ation sele F ted should be as F lose to the
sta F k or F himney as pra F ti F able, with adequate air supply and
as F entralized with the piping system as possible
Fire or Explosion Hazard
Read instruction manual before
installing, using or servicing
water heater.
Avoid all ignition sources if you smell gas.
Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and
liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.
Use only the gas shown on the water heater rating label.
Keep ignition sources away from faucets after extended
periods of non-use.
Maintain required clearances to combustibles.
Do not expose water heater controls to excessive gas
pressure.
There is a risk in using fuel burning applian F es su F h as gas water
heaters in rooms, garages or other areas where gasoline, other
À ammable liquids or engine driven equipment or vehi F les are stored,
operated or repaired Flammable vapors are heavy and travel
along the À oor and may be ignited by the heater ¶ s igniter or main
burner À ames F ausing ¿ re or explosion Some lo F al F odes permit
operation of gas applian F es in su F h areas if they are installed 18 ´
or more above the À oor This may redu F e the risk if lo F ation in
su F h an area F annot be avoided
Do not install this water heater dire F tly on a F arpeted À oor A ¿ re
hazard may result Instead the water heater must be pla F ed on a
metal or wood panel extending beyond the full width and depth by at
least 3 in
F hes in any dire F tion If the heater is installed in a F arpeted
al F ove, the entire À oor shall be F overed by the panel Also, see the
DRAINING requirements in MAINTENANCE Se F tion
The heater shall be lo F ated or prote F ted so it is not subje F t to physi F al
damage by a moving vehi F le
Flammable items, pressurized F ontainers or any other potential
¿ re hazardous arti F les must never be pla F ed on or adja F ent to
the heater Open F ontainers or À ammable material should not be
stored or used in the same room with the heater
