CAUTION
T&P Valve Discharge Pipe Requirements:
‡ Shall not be smaller in size than the outlet pipe size of the
valve, or have any redu F ing F ouplings or other restri F tions
‡ Shall not be plugged or blo F ked
‡ Shall not be exposed to freezing temperatures
‡ Shall be of material listed for hot water distribution
‡ Shall be installed so as to allow F omplete drainage of both
the Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve and the dis F harge
pipe
‡ Must terminate a maximum of six in F hes above a À oor
drain or external to the building In F old F limates, it is
re F ommended that the dis F harge pipe be terminated at an
adequate drain inside the building
‡ Shall not have any valve or other obstru F tion between the
pressure relief valve and the drain

The Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve must be manually operated
at least twi
F e a year Caution should be taken to ensure that (1) no
one is in front of or around the outlet of the Temperature-Pressure
Relief Valve dis
F harge line, and (2) the water manually dis F harged
will not F ause any bodily injury or property damage be F ause
the water may be extremely hot If after manually operating the
valve, it fails to F ompletely reset and F ontinues to release water,
immediately F lose the F old water inlet to the water heater, follow the
draining instru F tions in this manual, and repla F e the Temperature-
Pressure Relief Valve with a properly rated/sized new one
NOTE: The purpose of a Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve is to
prevent ex F essive temperatures and pressures in the storage tank
The T&P valve is not intended for the F onstant relief of thermal
expansion A properly sized thermal expansion tank must be
installed on all F losed systems to F ontrol thermal expansion, see
Closed Water Systems and Thermal Expansion on page 14

CONTAMINATED AIR
Breathing Hazard - Carbon Monoxide Gas
Install water heater in accordance with
the Instruction Manual and NFPA 54 or
CAN/CSA-B149.1.
To avoid injury, combustion and ventilation
air must be taken from outdoors.
Do not place chemical vapor emitting
products near water heater.
Breathing carbon monoxide can cause brain damage or
death. Always read and understand instruction manual.
Corrosion of the À ue ways and vent system may o FF ur if air for
F ombustion F ontains F ertain F hemi F al vapors Su F h F orrosion
may result in failure and risk of asphyxiation
Combustion air that is F ontaminated F an greatly diminish the life
span of the water heater and water heater F omponents su F h as
hot surfa F e igniters and burners Propellants of aerosol sprays,
beauty shop supplies, water softener F hemi F als and F hemi F als
used in dry F leaning pro F esses that are present in the F ombustion,
ventilation or ambient air F an F ause su F h damage
Do not store produ F ts of this sort near the water heater Air whi F h
is brought in F onta F t with the water heater should not F ontain any
of these F hemi F als If ne F essary, un F ontaminated air should be
obtained from remote or outdoor sour F es The limited warranty
is voided when failure of water heater is due to a F orrosive
atmosphere (See limited warranty for F omplete terms and
F onditions)
