This water heater is provided with a properly rated/sized and
F erti ¿ ed F ombination temperature - pressure (T&P) relief valve
by the manufa F turer See Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve
on pages 14-15 for information on repla F ement and other
requirements

CAUTION
Install a dis F harge pipe between the T&P valve dis F harge
opening and a suitable À oor drain Do not F onne F t dis F harge
piping dire F tly to the drain unless a 6 ´ (15 2 F m) air gap is
provided To prevent bodily injury, hazard to life, or property
damage, the relief valve must be allowed to dis F harge water
in adequate quantities should F ir F umstan F es demand If the
dis F harge pipe is not F onne F ted to a drain or other suitable
means, the water À ow may F ause property damage
T&P VALVE DISCHARGE PIPE REQUIREMENTS:
‡ Shall not be smaller in size than the outlet pipe size of the
valve, or have any redu F ing F ouplings or other restri F tions
‡ Shall not be plugged or blo F ked
‡ Shall not be exposed to freezing temperatures
‡ Shall be of material listed for hot water distribution
‡ Shall be installed so as to allow F omplete drainage of both
Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve and the dis F harge pipe
‡ Must terminate a maximum of six in F hes above a À oor
drain or external to the building In F old F limates, it is
re F ommended that the dis F harge pipe be terminated at an
adequate drain inside the building
‡ Shall not have any valve or other obstru F tion between the
relief valve and the drain
INSTALLATION DIAGRAMS - TOP INLET/OUTLET USAGE
Use of the top inlet water F onne F tion requires an inlet dip tube
(refer to Figure 17) The tube is supplied in the heater Follow
F aution labels if applying heat to this ¿ tting Do not allow pipe
dope to F onta F t the plasti F tube during installation

BURNER INSTALLATION
Remove the fa F tory-installed insulation F overing the F ombustion
F hamber opening (A utility knife is useful for F utting out the
insulation) Cut the insulation ba F k even with the ja F ket opening
Install the À ange gasket (whi F h is usually taped to the heater ja F ket)
over the three bolts protruding from the tank at the F ombustion
F hamber opening
Remove hardware (3 hex nuts, 3 À at washers, and 3 lo F k washers)
from the shipping bag atta F hed to the heater ¶ s ele F tri F al F onduit
Begin assembling the power burner to the tank by pla F ing the power
burner nozzle in the F ombustion F hamber opening Slide the nozzle
into the tank and rotate the mounting À ange to engage the mounting
bolts, refer to Figure 18 Then, pla F e the À at washers followed by
the lo F k washers, and ¿ nally the hex nuts on the mounting bolts
Hand tighten the nuts Then gradually tighten ea F h nut alternating
between the 3 mounting bolts Do not over tighten as damage to
the À ange gasket or to the tank may result Refer to Figure 18
