9. Install the connecting rod cap with 2 bolts
(Figure 5-85).
Connecting rod cap torque:
• First tightening: 375 kgf·cm, 37 N·m (27.2 lb-ft)
• Second tightening: Turn additional 90°
Note: NEVER turn the crankshaft.

10. Remove the 2 bolts, connecting rod cap and
lower bearing.
11. Measure the plastigage at the widest position
(Figure 5-86).
• Standard oil clearance: 0.036 to 0.054 mm
(0.001 to 0.002 in.)
• Maximum oil clearance: 0.10 mm (0.004 in.)
If the measured value exceeds the specified
maximum, replace the bearing and grind or
replace the crankshaft as necessary.

Note: Replace the old bearings with new
bearings of the same number. If the
bearing number is unknown, it may be
determined by adding the numbers on
the crankshaft with those on the
connecting rod. There are five types of
standard bearings, which are identified
by marks “2”, “3”, “4”, “5” and “6”
(Figure 5-87).
