The following information assists users and was issued in relation to the European Union (EU) Energy
Related Products Directive. Specifically, it was issued in relation to the Lot 4 study on Imaging
Equipment. This directive requires manufacturers to improve environmental performance of in-scope
devices and supports the EU action plan on energy efficiency.
In-scope devices are Household and Office equipment that meet the following criteria.
• Standard monochrome-format devices with a maximum speed of less than 66 A4 images per
minute
• Standard color-format devices with a maximum speed of less than 51 A4 images per minute
Environmental Benefits of Duplex Printing
Most Xerox products have duplex printing capability, also known as 2-sided printing. This capability
enables you to print on both sides of the paper, reduces paper consumption, and, therefore, the use
of valuable resources.
The Lot 4 Imaging Equipment agreement requires that the 2-sided functionality is auto-enabled on
models greater than or equal to either 40 ppm color, or 45 ppm monochrome. The 2-sided function is
auto-enabled during the setup and print driver installation.
Some Xerox models below these speed bands can be enabled with 2-sided print settings defaulted at
the time of installation. Using the 2-sided function reduces the environmental impact of your work.
However, if you require simplex/1-sided printing, you can change the print settings in the print driver.
Paper Types
This printer can print on both recycled and virgin paper, approved to an environmental stewardship
scheme, which complies with EN12281, or a similar quality standard. In certain applications, use
lighter weight paper, such as 60 g/m², which contains less raw material and, therefore, saves resources
per print. Check if this lighter weight paper is suitable for your printing needs.
ENERGY STAR – European Union Information
The ENERGY STAR program is a voluntary scheme to promote the development and purchase of
energy-efficient models, which reduces the environmental impact. For details on the ENERGY STAR
program and models qualified to ENERGY STAR, go to
Power Consumption and Activation Time
The amount of electricity a printer consumes depends on the way that you use the device. This
printer is designed and configured to enable you to reduce your electricity costs. After the last print,
the device switches to Ready mode. In this mode, the device can print again immediately. If the
printer is not used for a specified time, the device switches to a Power Saver mode. In these modes, to
enable reduced printer power consumption, only essential functions remain active.
The printer takes slightly longer to produce the first print after it exits a Power Saver mode than it
takes in Ready mode. This delay is due to the system waking up from a Power Saver mode, and is
typical of most imaging devices on the market.
You can set a longer activation time or completely deactivate the Power Saver mode. This device can
take longer to switch to a lower energy level.
