Note: You will need to match the IP Pool settings with the Controller LAN settings to insure
that DHCP subscribers can connect successfully. You will receive a warning if the settings
do not m atch, but the settings are not changed autom atically.
Dual WAN Load Balancing
This feature consists of a primary and secondary Controller. The primary and
secondary Controllers have separate WAN IP addresses, but LAN IP addresses in the
same subnet and the same DHCP pools in this subnet. Furthermore, the Primary and
Secondary Controller have the IP address of the other controller configured as well.
The Controllers monitor each other as well as their own WAN connection to detect a
loss of service, in which case the remaining Controller supports all subscribers.
Otherwise, the subscribers are shared between the two Controllers and the two WAN
ports
General Functionality:
The Primary and Secondary Controller both respond to DHCP requests in the same
pool. The mechanism provides that approximately half of the requests are answered
by each Controller, but there is no guarantee for a particular request. Typically, one
Controller will have a few more clients than the other.
Configuration:
The Controller Load Balancing is enabled under
Networks – Server – Dual WAN
Load Balancing – Enable
. Choose which Controller is the Primary and which
Secondary. You must enter the LAN IP address of the Peer Controller so that the
Primary and Secondary can detect each other. The Primary and Secondary must be
in the same subnet and have the same DHCP Pool configuration. DHCP must be
configured to DHCP Server without static DHCP assignments. This enables the
Controllers to manage the DHCP pool intelligently, and provide failover if one goes
down. The system time and date must be synchronized between the Primary and
Secondary Controllers under
Networks – System – Calendar
.
Dual WAN Failover Type
Select
Primary
or
Secondary
. One of the two controllers must
be configured as Primary and the other as Secondary. The
Primary handles more advanced features like Auto-IP and VPN
Static IPs.
