it for some other reason. Keep in mind that you will not be
able to manage the Controller in this state through the LAN
port; you must connect to the WAN.
Dual Controller Behavior
Link Aggregation:
Subscribers are distributed proportionally between two
Controllers with independent WAN connections, with up to 300Mbps of total
throughput. A single client can only be connected to one Controller, so the maximum
throughput for a single client is 150Mbps, or the speed of one of the two WAN
connections.
Concurrent subscribers:
Two load balancing Controllers support up to 1000
concurrent (logged in) subscribers. This is based on 500 subscribers per gateway.
Auto-IP:
Only the Primary Controller runs Auto-IP and responds to misconfigured
clients. In the case of a failover, the Secondary Controller will start providing this
service. If Auto-IP is not enabled, the peer Controller will only provide service to the
DHCP clients of the down gateway.
Failover:
On detecting the peer gateway is down, and waiting for the

Failover Time
to expire, the remaining Controller responds to any LAN requests for
that Controller’s clients, and any out-of-subnet Auto-IP clients (if Auto-IP is enabled).
When the peer is back up functionality goes back to normal. It is expected that
subscribers may need to log in again, but should not have to reboot or renew DHCP.
Static VPN IPs:
On both Peer Controllers Static VPN IPs must be enabled and the
same WAN IP addresses must be configured. These Static IPs must be from the
Primary WAN network. Both Primary and Secondary can assign the static addresses
via DHCP. However, only the Primary will provide service to these addresses once
they are assigned. If the Primary is down, these subscribers will need to use a regular
DHCP LAN IP until service is restored.
