Sw itching off the engine
If the engine temperature is v ery high, e.g.
after driv ing in mountainous terrain: allow
engine to idle for a pprox. 2 minutes, in
order to prevent heat ac cum ula tion.
When you switch off, fans in the engine
compartment may continue running for a
time, to cool the engine.
Vehicles w ith turb ocharger

In order to protect the turbocharger, after
running at high engine speeds or high
engine loa ds, operate the engine briefly at
a low load or run in neutra l for approx.
30 second s b efore switching off.

Overrun
The fuel supply is autom atically shut off
during overrun, e.g. when the vehicle is
being driven down long gradients or d uring
braking. To enable the overrun cut-off to
come into action, do not accelerate or
declutch during ov errun.
Engine rpm
Und er all d riv ing cond itions, drive in a
fa vourab le engine speed range.
Wa rming up
Allow engine to w arm up while driving. Do
not w arm it up by letting it run at id ling
speed. Do not apply full throttle until
engine reaches operating temperature.

does not shift into higher
gears until higher engine speed s ha ve been
reached . This allows the catalytic converter
to quic kly reach the temperature req uired
for optimum pollutant reduction.
Correct g ear selection
Do not race your engine whilst in neutral or
with a low gea r selected. Driving too fast in
indiv idua l gea rs or drive ranges as w ell as
stop-and-go traffic increa se engine wear
and fuel consum ption.
Change dow n
When decreasing speed, shift down into
the next lowest gear. Do not slip the clutch
with a high-revving engine. This is
especially important when hill climb ing.
Clutch operation

Always d epress the c lutch pedal hard to
the floor, to prev ent shifting difficulties and
transmission damage. There must be no
ma ts in the area of the pedals.
When driving, do not use the clutch pedal
as a footrest; this will cause substa ntial
clutch wear.
Pedals
Do not place any ob jects in the footwell
which could slip under the ped als and
inhibit the pedal trav el.
To ensure the pedal travel is uninhibited,
there must be no mats in the area of the
pedals.
When driving, do not use the b ra ke pedal
as a footrest; this will cause substa ntial
wear to brake comp onents and cause
overheating, resulting in longer brak ing
distances.
Battery ca re w hilst driving
When driving slowly or when the v ehicle
is sta tionary, e.g. in slow urban traffic ,
stop-and-go traffic or traffic jam s, turn off
all unnecessary electric al loads where
possible (e.g. heated rear window,
auxiliary headlights).
When starting the eng ine, depress the
clutch pedal so that transmission
resistance is elimina ted a nd the starter
motor and battery are relieved.
