Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
u
The ABS continually monitors the v ehicle's
brake system and prevents the wheels from
locking, irrespective of the road c ondition
and tyre grip.
It starts to regulate the braking p ressure as
soon as a w heel shows a tendency to lock.
The v ehicle remains steera ble, even in the
event of very heavy b ra king , e.g. on b ends
or when swerving to avoid a n obstacle.
Ev en in the c ase of full-on brak ing, the ABS
mak es it possible to drive round an
obstacle w ithout releasing the brakes.
ABS control is made app arent through a
pulse in the brake peda l and the noise of
the regulation proc ess.
Control ind icator
u
for ABS
Illum inates in yellow for approx. 4 seconds
when the ig nition is sw itched on.
At the same time, the system performs a
self-c heck. When the control ind ic ator
extinguishes, the system is ready for
op eration.
If the control indicator does not illumina te
when the ig nition is sw itched on, does not
extinguish after approx. 4 seconds, or if it
illuminates during driving, there is a fault in
the ABS. The vehicle's brake system m ay
remain operational without ABS
regulation.
If control indicator
u
illum ina tes during
driving a long with brake system control
indicator

, there is a serious fault in the
brak e system. Have the system chec ked
imm ediately by a workshop.
Fault
You can continue driving, provided you
drive with care and anticipation.
Hav e the cause of the fault rem edied by a
workshop. The system 's integrated self-
diag nostics allow s faults to be quickly
remedied.

Warning
For optimum b ra king, keep the brak e
pedal fully depressed throughout the
braking p rocess, despite the fac t that the
pedal is pulsating. Do not red uce the
pressure on the pedal.
Do not let this special safety feature
tempt you into tak ing risks when driving.
Traffic safety can only be achieved by
adopting a responsib le driving style.
9
Warning
If there is a fault in the ABS, the wheels
may tend to lock in the event of unusually
heavy braking. This may cause the
vehicle to sw erve. The benefits of the ABS
are lost.
