Tensioning
This procedure describes how to set the DPT-60 when it is used as a Tensioner, and
you are starting with SLACK PULLING ROPE or CONDUCTOR.
DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE WHEN THERE IS TENSION ON THE
CONDUCTOR
1. Increase the engine speed to FULL throttle. An engine operated at idle speed does
not sufficiently power the hydraulic system, and may let the brake drag causing
overheating of the brake and erratic control.
2. Make sure the Brake Control (3) is in the APPLY position.
3. Pull the Direction Control Lever (4) to the TENSION position.
4. Turn in the Linepull Control (2) to give 500 PSI on the hydraulic Pressure
Gauge (1). This will give a small preset tension to the conductor.
5. Turn Brake Control (3) to the RELEASE position.
6. Instruct the Puller operator to start pulling, and as line starts moving, adjust the
Linepull Control (2) until the desired stringing tension is achieved on the Conductor
to give the desired stringing sag. You may have to adjust the Linepull Control (2) to
increase or decrease tension in the conductor and maintain the correct stringing
sag, as the reel empties.
7. To stop, except in the case of an emergency, the puller operator must stop pulling
first. When the conductor reel comes to stop, APPLY the Brake (3) and return the
Directional Control Lever (4) to the NEUTAL position.
Tensioning (To resume after a stop)
When the pull is to be resumed after a short stop, when the Linepull Control
(2) and the Direction Control (4) have already been set; move the Brake (3) to the
RELEASE position and instruct the Puller operator to begin pulling again.
The tension in the conductor should revert to the previous setting before the stop.
