Motor/Platen Troubleshooting
IMPORTANT!
The following visual observations do
not necessarily mean a motor has failed:
S
Oil residue on the motor housing or oil spots
are visible on the insulation.
S
The motor is making a chattering noise.
S
The front motor appears slower when
autoleveling. Swap the front motor with
either the left or right rear motors.
Reference Service Bulletin 0182SG.
All troubleshooting procedures should be followed to
determine if a motor has failed before replacing the
motor.
Note:
When completing the Return Material Tag
(RMT) for a failed motor, indicate the platen position
(left, center, right), motor location (left, right, front),
and the type of failure (mechanical or electrical).
Test 1: Visual Inspection
IMPORTANT!
Before performing this inspection,
verify that the interlock switch is OFF. Remove the
platen cover and perform a visual inspection. Check
for:
S
Grease shields binding.
S
Carbon buildup around the grease shields.
S
Wire harnesses showing damage or binding.
S
Lift cables are kinked, broken or not in the
pulley groove.
Test 2: Pulley Oscillation
Perform this test only if display reads “Please
Wait for Auto Leveling”.
IMPORTANT!
Verify that the power is ON.
Autolevel the platen. Observe the pulleys and
cables once the platen has lowered to the cook
surface.
If the pulleys do not oscillate and the cables remain
slack, set meter to DC Voltage and check pins 4, 5,
and 6 on each motor plug to ground. If all readings
fluctuate continuously, replace the motor.
Note:
Readings on good motors will stabilize
(example: 4.9, 0, 4.9).
If the platen does not lower, proceed to test 3.
