Gathering chains and tighteners
7. Adjustments and operations
The chains of the harvesting rows leave the factory adjusted, but it is necessary to
verify them periodically due to the natural friction wear during the job.
To adjust the chain, the tips must be in transport position.
In order that the chains perform a great job until they are replaced, we recommend to
carry out the tension adjustment.
The gathering chains (A) are used to transport the corn cobs to the augers.
The gathering chains (A) are adjusted through the adjustment spindle (B). Do not apply
excessive pressure to the tighteners in order to not compromise the lifetime of the chains,
springs and bearings. A practical way to adjust the chains is by tightening the adjustment
spindle (B) until the spring starts to get pressure and then tighten for about 10 mm on its
length.
The chain must not be too loose, as it may escape from the sprockets. If that happens,
tighten the tightener a bit more.
After adjusting the pressure, tighten the counter nut (C).
ATTENTION
- To finish the adjustment, repeat the same procedures on every row unit.

The chains (A) leave the factory with their
gathering fingers (E) assembled as shown on the
illustration so that there is an uniformity on the cobs
harvesting and to avoid friction between the chains.
