4.2 Rear Brake System
To remove the master cylinder from the machine,
disconnect the brake light switch and remove the 2
bolts (M5 x 16mm) securing the clamp and master
cylinder to the handlebars.
When refitting, tighten to 7Nm
Note; ensure the clamp is oriented correctly
when refitting.
If the brake requires bleeding, remove the 2 securing
bolts from the fluid reservoir and ensure it is topped
up (Mineral oil only).
The Talaria Sting L1e brake caliper uses a simple
blanking nipple with no outlet. Caution should be
taken to avoid excessive spillage or fire risk from spilt
fluids.
Once the air has been removed from the system, test the feel of the brake. If “spongy” repeat the
bleeding process until firm.
Ensuring the brake fluid reservoir is topped up (Mineral
oil only) follow the bleeding routine;
1. Open the bleed nipple around to allow fluid to escape.
2. Depress the rear brake lever
3. Close the bleed nipple
4. Release the rear brake lever.
Repeat 1 through 4 until all air has been bled from the
system or fluid has been replaced if servicing.
Do not allow the reservoir to empty during this process
or air will be drawn into the fluid system and the process
will have to be re-started.
CAUTION; Do not allow the brake oil to
contaminate the brake pads or disc during this
process.
Before refitting the disc, ensure the mating surface
on the wheel hub is clean and free from corrosion
and debris. Do not use harsh abrasives such as a
metal file as this may cause the disc to warp when
fitted.
