Chapter 8: Temperature
Temperature Theory of Operation
The V3404 Plus uses standard (YSI 400 Series) thermistors to measure the temperature of the patient. These
thermistors have a large predictable variation of resistance with temperature. The monitor measures resistance
of the thermistor in the sensor and converts it to the equivalent temperature in degree of Celsius or degrees of
Fahrenheit as selected by the operator. There is no need to calibrate the system for it is self calibrating.
Temperature Menu
The temperature menu allows the user to view and/or select temperature monitoring settings.
Figure 8.1: Temperature Menu
The temperature measurement is displayed here. Dashes are displayed if
temperature monitoring is enabled, but there is no valid temperature reading.
Setting up Temperature Monitoring
Ensure the temperature parameter is enabled.
The temperature parameter can be turned on or off in the
TEMPERATURE
menu. To ensure the temperature
parameter is on, press the
b
key. Use the ARROW (
o n
) keys to highlight the
TEMPERATURE
option.
Press the
b
key again to enter the temperature menu. Use the ARROW (
o n
) keys to highlight the
TEMP
MONITOR
option, and confirm the option is set to
ON
.
Attaching the Patient
Choose a temperature sensor.
Attach the temperature probe (V3417) to the temperature cable (V3413). The WWV3418 reusable
temperature probe/cable may also be used.
Apply the temperature probe to the patient according to the standards of practice and care for your facility.
NOTE! The temperature measurement alternates with the respiration measurement on the display every
five (5) seconds.
Units
Temperature can be displayed in Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C).
