Error Correction Mode (ECM)
Noise on the line can sometimes cause distortions in a transmitted fax image. When this happens, the
ECM function automatically resends the part of the image that was distorted.
●
When this function is turned on, transmission will take slightly longer than normal.
●
In order for ECM to operate, the other machine must also have the ECM function.
When the receiving machine is set to manual reception
Transmission begins automatically when the operator of the receiving machine initiates reception.
●
This transmission method is called "manual transmission".
When 8-1/2" x 11" paper is loaded in the receiving machine
If you send an original that is larger than 8-1/2" x 11", the original will be automatically reduced. (See page 19)
●
Reducing the original may slightly decrease its clarity.
●
You can turn off automatic reduction with the key operator program. (See page 153)
When a fax is received during a transmission operation
●
If the machine is set to auto reception, reception will begin automatically. (See page 41)
●
If the machine is set to manual reception, you can lift an extension phone connected to the machine
and talk to the other party. To receive a fax, remove the original from the SPF or the platen glass, and
then press "5
" and replace the extension phone. (See page 113)
*If an extension phone is not connected to the machine, you will not be able to speak to the other party.
When the line is busy
When the line is busy or ringing lasts 45 seconds* without reception taking place, your machine will break the
connection and then automatically retry the call. (*The call will be retried twice at an interval of 3 minutes.)
●
This function is called "recall mode".
●
If you do not want the machine to retry the call, press the JOB STATUS key and then cancel the job
in the transmission job screen
*You can change the recall interval, the number of recall attempts, and the time allowed for the other
machine to respond (ringing time) with the key operator program settings. (See pages 155, 157)
Convenient functions for sending and receiving faxes
The following functions can be used when sending and receiving faxes:
●
Adding page numbers to transmitted faxes (See page 153)
●
Adding a cover sheet to transmitted faxes (See page 108)
●
