Automatic Copy Speed Reduction
Also called ‘CPM Down Mode’
Makes sure that fusing is completed correctly in all
conditions
Two processes
z
Copy speed automatically decreases if the user
selects thick paper or OHP at the bypass tray.
z
Copy speed automatically decreases if the centre
thermistor detects that the temperature is below a set
value.
• The room temperature also controls this process.
• The room temperature is detected by the
temperature/humidity sensor (see the next slide)
Service manual, section 6.12.7
Copy speed automatically decreases if the user selects thick paper or OHP at the
bypass tray. This ensures that the image is fused properly, because thicker paper
cools down the fusing unit too much at the usual copy speeds.
¾
If the user uses tab paper or thick paper in any of the other trays, the copy
speed can also be reduced, by adjusting SP 1901 (by default, the speed is
reduced to 40 cpm if the user selects thick paper, and to 25 cpm for tab
sheets).
Copy speed is automatically reduced if the centre thermistor detects that the
temperature is below a set value.

The details of this process are in the service manual.
