3 Setting alarm thresholds
Setting the Pi alarm threshold – Special case
CAUTION
If you change any of the alarm settings, see Section 6.5 on page 74 for instructions on
testing the alarms.
This setting is used:
•
Usually for ventilation in volume-based modes
•
With a single circuit. When using a single circuit, this is the only way of detecting when the
patient circuit is disconnected.
Pi represents the minimum pressure threshold to be maintained during inspiration. If the
pressure falls below this threshold, the Low Pressure alarm is triggered.
Pi = Pmax – PEEP, where Pmax is the maximum inspiratory pressure measurement.
Example of how to set the Pi alarm threshold, with PEEP at 5 cm H
2
O and the Pi value at
7 cm H
2

2. Press the value to be modified (here, Pmax = 50).
3. Press or to set the value (a flashing message appears at
the top of the screen when the upper or lower limit is
reached), then press
to confirm.
Note:
It is possible to change several alarm thresholds in
succession and confirm them all at once.
Now you can:

Set the ventilation mode again by pressing
•
Adjust the parameters again by pressing .

1. On the parameter settings screen, set the target PEEP to
5 cm H
2
O.
2. On the alarms screen, set Pi to 7 cm H
2
O. To avoid triggering
the Low Pressure alarm, the pressure during inspiration must
always exceed the threshold of 7 cm H
2
O above PEEP.
