IMAGE PROBLEMS CONT.
Problem
Probable Causes
Possible Solutions
Vertical lines across the image
(always in the same place on
each Card).
1.
Card striking something during the
printing cycle.
2.
Card striking the Magnetic Encoding
Head during printing.
3.
Card not running smoothly through the
sprung-loaded Card guide system
1.
Check the print path is clear and all Rollers are turning.
2.
Reduce the Magnetic Encoding Head height by tightening
the rear grub-screw.
3.
Ensure the sprung-loaded Card Guide moves in and out
smoothly
Vertical lines across the image
(different place on each Card).
1.
Incorrect belt tension between the main
Stepper Motor and large drive Pulley.
2.
Stepper Motor is not rotating smoothly.
3.
Damaged or faulty controller PCB.
1.
Re-tension the main stepper Drive Belt (Belt should rotate
through 90 degrees along the length of it’s longest travel).
2.
Compare the rotational resistance to another Stepper
Motor.
3.
Swap if necessary for testing.
4.
Call Magicard Technical Support.
Background colour changes at
edges of dark or light objects
1.
Poor Print Head colour compensation.
Usually a fault with either the Print Head
or Controller PCB.
1.
Replace Print Head.
2.
Replace controller PCB, call Magicard Technical Support.
Light faded edge along the
length of the Card.
1.
Raised area or burr along the same
edge to the Card.
2.
Poor contact between the Print Head
printing surface and the Card.
1.
Flip the card over and print on the reverse (if applicable)
otherwise rotate the card through 180 degrees. Does the
faded edge remain on the same side ?
2.
Ensure the Print Head moves up and springs back down
smoothly.
3.
Ensure the Print Head shield has not slipped downwards.
Printed image is not very clear
or sharp.
1.
Poor quality PVC cards.
2.
Card is being mis-positioned slightly for
each colour pass.
3.
Low resolution picture.
4.
Incorrect Driver settings.
1.
Try using a higher quality PVC Card.
2.
Clean the Printer using the recommended Magicard
cleaning consumables.
3.
Ensure the original artwork is a high resolution image.
4.
Increase the sharpness setting in the Printer Driver.
