3.2 Burn Hazard & Eye Safety
Laser
The IVIS Spectrum Imaging Instrument contains an embedded Class 3R Laser
module: 532 nm (visible green) laser source, 5 mW maximum continuous
(CW). The instrument itself is classified as a Class 1 device because the user is
safely protected from the laser beam. The potential hazard of exposure to
service personnel is clearly indicated with a warning label per IEC 60825 and
CDRH requirements.
CAUTION
!
CAUTION!
The use of controls or adjustments or performance of
procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous
radiation exposure.
NEVER remove back, side, front or internal panels of the instrument while the
laser is powered on. Note that laser light can be easily reflected off of shiny
surfaces. Remove all watches and jewelry before placing hands in the imaging
chamber.
Complies with FDA performance standards for laser products except for
deviations pursuant to Laser Notice No. 50, dated 6/24/2007.
Complies with IEC/EN 60825-1:2007.
Light Source Module
The IVIS Spectrum is equipped with a fluorescence light source module and
connecting fiber optic cables that are capable of producing intense light that
could be damaging to the eyes. Additionally, the system is equipped with a
Class 3R laser, which could be an eye hazard.
3.3 Mechanical Safety
The IVIS
Spectrum has many internal motorized components that can move
only when the door is closed and locked. Because the imaging platform moves
frequently during routine use, keep loose objects away from the edges of the
platform where they could become jammed.
Note:
The actual warning label
mounted on the laser module at
the service access inside the unit
uses non-fluorescing colors and
materials
