the SmartNode 2000 series with an optional IC-E1V interface card installed is used as a voice gate-
way and IP router in a company headquarters.

The PBX is connected to the PRI port of the IC-E1V interface card, providing up to 30 concurrent ISDN B-
channels. The voice data is transferred via the integrated voice gateway in the SmartNode 2000 series over
Ethernet interface ETH 0/0.
Depending on the call procedures defined by the software running in the SmartNode 2000 series, voice data is
formatted as H.323 compliant or ISoIP voice streams.
IP access to the WAN
In the following figures, a wide-area transmission modem is shown as attached to the IP access network of the
operator via Ethernet port ETH 0 for SmartNode 1000 series or ETH 0/0 for SmartNode 2000 series.
