Section 4-28
The display of an error message indicates that the transferred user description is
incomplete or contains errors. Switching the terminal off and on at this point will
automatically reactivate the download operating mode.
4.28.1 Downloading with Windows
The programming software does not necessarily have to be used for downloading.
Another option is to use the program Terminal that is available under MS Windows
(group ‘Accessories’).
The following steps are required:
1. Connect COM1 or COM2 of the PC with the interface channel SER2 using the
download cable
2. Double-click the Terminal icon under Windows
3. Set the parameters:
Menu:
Settings:
Communication:

xon/xoff
1 stop bit
Transfers:
Send text file:
(Enter file name) xxxxx.S3
4.28.2 Application Memory
The terminals come fitted with a 256 kByte Flash memory. Flash memory is non-
volatile either as UV-EPROMs are, but flash memory can be erased and written
without putting it out of the appliance. Therefore the application can easily and
quickly be tested or setup to new conditions.
4.28.3 Loading an Application
To load the application, a PC must be connected to interface channel SER2 using
the download cable. The terminal must then be placed to the download mode. The
following message must appear on the display:
The terminal is now ready to receive a new application via interface channel SER2
and store it in the Flash memory.
Now the download of an error-free user description ‘name S.3’ must be activated
using the Project Management dialog in the programming software.
The progress of the data transfer will be indicated on the display by the characters
‘
.....
’, the number of characters will therefore change continuously.
The download transmission can either be controlled by a beam in the dialog box
After the transmission is complete, the following is displayed
to indicate that the transfer has completed. After the transfer, the terminal immediate-
ly starts the initialization phase and displays the start mask of the user description.
