Transparent Mode
Transparent mode is the name of an operation mode that lets the operating termi-
nal function as a text monitor with printer interface. The controller must serve all
characters and control sequences, that are needed to display text items and val-
ues. The operating terminal displays only fatal error messages (system mes-
sages). All parameters for the communication are set up in the setup mask.
5.1
Setting the Operating Mode
The user-mode switch must be used to select the transparent mode. The terminal
must be off when selecting the mode of operation. To access the user-mode
switch, open the enclosure on the rear side of the terminal. The terminal is factory-
set to the standard mode! The positions ON/OFF are as indicated by the labelling
on the switch.

The selected mode of operation is activated once power is applied to the terminal.
All terminals are factory-set to standard mode!
5.2
Start-up Processes
The start-up processes are identical for all operating terminals.
After the voltage has been applied, the following message will be displayed:
Fig. 28: Example of a start mask
The message will be displayed in an one-line, centered format or in case of smaller-
sized displays in a two-line format. All LEDs will be activated while this message is
being displayed, allowing the operator to perform a visual inspection. The message
will be displayed for 2 sec. After this time period has elapsed, the message will be
erased, the cursor will be positioned at the top left of the display (position 1, 1) and the
characters received at interface channel SER1 will be interpreted and displayed.
