4-1 Starting the PC Link System
After replacing the PLCs and PC Link Units in the existing system and making
the necessary settings on the new PC Link Units, use a Programming Device
(CX-Programmer or a Programming Console) to make the necessary settings
in the PLC and start the PC Link.
Checkpoints
Check the following items before starting the system. For details, refer to 3-6
Replacement Checklists .
1. Have PLCs been replaced with CVM1/CV-series PLCs?
2. Have PC Link Units been replaced with CVM1-LK401 Units?
3. Are the switch settings on the CVM1-LK401 Units correct?
4. Is the Unit wiring and communications cable wiring correct?
5. Are the changes to the ladder program, LR Area, and Status Area correct?
Startup Procedure
1,2,3... 1. Turn ON the power to the replacement CVM1/CV-series PLC and connect
the Programming Device (Programming Console or CX-Programmer).
2. Create the I/O table.
• For details on creating the I/O table with a Programming Console, refer to
the CVM1-PRS21-E Programming Console Operation Manual (W222).
• For details on creating the I/O table with the CX-Programmer, refer to the
CX-Programmer Operation Manual .
• The I/O table cannot be created offline with Version 4.0 or earlier versions
of the CX-Programmer. In that case, create the I/O table online.
• The CVM1-LK401 PC Link Units cannot be registered with Version 4.0 or
earlier versions of the CX-Programmer, so those PC Link Units will be
listed as unknown when the I/O table is read.
• It is not necessary to register this PC Link Unit in the routing table.
3. Set the CPU Unit’s mode to synchronous operation mode in the PLC Set-
up.
The C500, C1000H, and C2000H PLCs operate in synchronous operation
mode.
The default mode for the CVM1/CV-series PLCs is asynchronous opera-
tion mode, but the data in the LR Area may change within one execution
cycle in asynchronous mode and adjacent words may not contain synchro-
nous data. We recommend changing to synchronous mode when connect-
ing to a PC Link system. For details, refer to
3-5 PLC Operation Mode
(Synchronous/Asynchronous Mode) .
• When changing the PLC Setup with the CX-Programmer, select PLC
Setup - Execution Controls - Execute Processing , and select Syn-
chronous . Make this setting in PROGRAM mode. The setting will be
enabled the next time that the power is turned ON.
The setting can also be changed with the CVSS, but it cannot be changed
with a Programming Console.
