Updating BIOS
Award BIOS Flash Utility
Follow the instructions below to update the BIOS using the AwardBIOS Flash Utility.
1.
Create a DOS-bootable floppy disk.
2.
Consult our Web site at the following address:
http://www.nec-
computers.com
to download the latest BIOS file for your motherboard as well
as the flashing utility (these files may have been zipped for your convenience).
Save these files on a floppy disk (unzip them if necessary).
3.
Boot your system in DOS mode using the floppy disk created in step1.
4.
When the prompt
A:>
appears, replace the bootable floppy disk with the floppy
disk containing the new BIOS file and the update utility.
5.
Type
awdflash
and press
Enter
. The Award BIOS Flash utility screen appears.
6.
Type the BIOS file name in the
File Name to Program
field, and press
Enter
.
7.
Press
N
when the utility prompts you to save the current BIOS file. The
flashing process starts.
Caution
Do not shutdown or reset the system while updating the BIOS!
Doing so may cause system boot failure!
8.
When the
Flashing Complete
message appears, remove the floppy disk and
press
F1
to reboot the system.
Notes: The following message may appear during POST:
“CMOS Checksum Bad.
Press F1 to Run Setup.”
In this case, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup utility. In the
BIOS Setup utility, press F5 to load the setup defaults.
9.
Press
DEL
to enter the BIOS Setup Utility, reconfigure the BIOS settings, and
press
F10
to save the changes and exit the BIOS Setup utility.
Asus CrashFree BIOS 2 Utility
The Asus CrashFree BIOS 2 utility is an auto recovery tool that allows you to restore
the BIOS file when it fails or gets corrupted during the updating process.
You can update a corrupted BIOS file using either the floppy disk that contains the
updated BIOS file, or the Expressbuilder CD, which contains the BIOS that was
factory-installed on your system..
