Upgrading Your System 4-9
To replace the RTC battery, perform the following procedures:
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed under
General Information
and
Static Precautions
at the beginning of this chapter.
2.
Perform the steps in "Preparing Your System for Upgrade" described earlier
in this chapter.
3.
Extend the server out from the rack.
4.
Remove the top cover of the system chassis. See
Top Cover Removal
found
earlier in this chapter.

CAUTION
For proper cooling and airflow, do not operate the system
with the top cover removed. Always
replace
the top cover
before powering on the system.

5.
If present, remove the protective plastic cover located over the top of the
lithium battery (see Figure 4-6).
6.
Insert the tip of a small flat-bladed screwdriver, or equivalent, under the
plastic tab on the plastic retainer (see Figure 4-6, A).
7.
Gently push down on the screwdriver to lift the battery (see Figure 4-6, B).
8.
Remove the battery from its socket (see Figure 4-6,C).
9.
Dispose of the battery according to local ordinance.
10.
Remove the new lithium battery from its package, and, being careful to
observe the correct polarity (plus sign (+) up) insert it into the battery socket.
11.
If applicable, reinstall the plastic cover on the lithium battery socket.
