Upgrading Your System 4-5
Extending the Server out of the Rack
The server needs to be pulled out from the rack for installing/removing any
components other than the hard disk drives.
!
WARNING
Do not install the server in a rack leaving the top cover
removed.
Do not pull a device out of the rack if the rack is unstable.
Do not pull more than one device out of the rack at a time.
1.
Perform the steps in "Preparing Your System for Upgrade" described earlier
in this chapter.
2.
Loosen the two captive thumbscrews on the front panel. See Figure 4-2, B.
3.
Hold the handles and slowly pull out the server from the rack. See Figure 4-
2, A. A click is heard as the slide rails lock in the extended position.

When inserting the server back into the rack, push the release levers on the
rails on the sides of the server to unlatch the server. Be very careful not to
get your finger caught.
